Research

To conserve and protect our natural world, we must first understand the species and habitats that live within it. Through scientific research and citizen science, we aim to better understand the biology and ecology of the species and ecosystems found within Jervis Bay.

Scientific Research

At the Jervis Bay Marine Discovery and Research Centre, we are involved in supporting scientists and research groups working on a number of different scientific projects, including:

  • Understanding the residency, movements and migrations of Port Jackson sharks and crested horn sharks (Macquarie University)
  • Understanding the relationship between Sycon sponges and kelp (Australian National University)
  • Assessing the success of the Return and Earn program through marine debris surveys (National Marine Science Centre)

Citizen Science

At the Jervis Bay Marine Discovery and Research Centre, we are also engaged in a number of citizen science projects with our members:

  • Assessing abundance and diversity of sea slugs within Jervis Bay (National Marine Science Centre)
  • Assessing the diversity and abundance of reef fishes and invertebrates (Reef Life Survey)
