Education

Education plays an important role in inspiring people to protect and conserve the natural environment. Through immersive experiences, hands on activities and scientific exploration, we encourage students to engage with the world around them and become life long learners.

Schools for Sharks Program

“Schools for Sharks” is a 10-week program run by the Jervis Bay Marine Discovery and Research Centre (JBMDRC) in Term 3 with schools in the Jervis Bay area. It aims to take students and teachers on a journey of discovery about sharks and gives students the opportunity to participate in shark research and activism work. Each week, a presenter from the Jervis Bay Marine Discovery and Research Centre will present lessons aligned with NESA outcomes from the Science, Geography, English, Mathematics and Creative Arts syllabuses. School Excursions

We are passionate about sharing our love for and knowledge of the environment with students and teachers alike. We are currently developing education programs focusing on the natural beauty of Jervis Bay and developing stewardship of the environment. Educational activities are designed to align with national curriculum standards to give students practical experience of theoretical concepts they learn in class and can be customised to fit your students learning needs and styles. Every excursion with the Jervis Bay Marine Discovery and Research Centre will come with:

  • An exciting day in Jervis Bay filled with adventure, education and fun for yourself and your students!
  • Completed permission notes, risk assessments and checklists to give you a hassle free experience planning process your day out!
  • Lesson plans to complete before or after the excursion to ensure that your students remember as much of the content as possible!
  • A short video of the days events to show in class to relive our adventure or at assembly to make everyone else jealous!
  • A class photo taken on the day of the excursion and lessons that will last a lifetime for your students!
